Initially I've turned it on for performance, then turn it off to discover that's it's running fine too. I was planning on leaving it like that but this whole "bleeding" of status bar and lack of clear distinction of it from the rest of the screen just made me go back. I do think with reduced transparency it looks better and more modern. Also, the text from menus is easier to read that way too.

We all have preferences, that's why they are available. Personally, I like Reduce Transparency.

Transparent layers to achieve depth seems good in theory but in practice my lizard brain prefers solid layers for better contrast and legibility. Far less cognitive load and distraction—I'd often interrupt myself to note how cool something looked so I took that as a bad thing for workflow.

It’s an unnecessary distraction 99% of the time. From the time it was introduced, I’ve never found it to be functionally beneficial. It seems to mostly to have been a “hey we can do this and it’s new, so...” from Windows 7 & Apple circa 2013. There are countless times I’d prefer being able to still see/read and refer to the background instead of a blur, such as when pulling up control panel.

There’s a reason why the paper on our desk and in books isn’t transparent.
