I need to get XP on my mac before I go to uni.
Yesterday I was going through the attic when I found an old busted laptop, so I thought it'd be cool to dump windows off of it and install ubuntu.
Now it's done, does that mean, as this copy of XP is no longer in use, I can use the product key from my laptop legally on a copy of XP for my mac? Or is it just licensed for the original laptop?

Thanks

i think, if you un-register the original laptop, you are in safe territory. have read this advice a few times, including some OEM sites.

assuming its oem its licensed to the original hardware only (ie the laptop). Not to say it can't be installed as I've installed an oem on a different system without any issues its just not strictly legal.

I guess seeing as it's now Linux-tastic, there's no way to find out what version it is other than to call microsoft...?

Ah well, call them on tuesday and try and transfer it.

Cheers guys.
