Is it me... iPad app store is frustrating

I hear there there are around 5000 apps for the iPad. How would anyone even know -- I mean, for me, I find the whole store small and cumbersome.

Even on the Mac in iTunes, I find the store poor.

I cannot imagine being a developer and trying to generate sales if you are not a top tier publisher.

I get more new app info from appshopper, touch arcade, and Twitter.
 
I agree. It is limited and unorganized at then moment. I read Apple just hired a 13yr vet from IGN that is in charge of organizing games. I hope he has a positive impact on the store.

What is you reasoning for the frustration?
 
Using appshopper website and rss feeds via feedler to keep up myself. The store looks great, but my main issue is that if I am browsing the top categories, select an app to read more about it, then go back to the list, it refreshes the stinking page and I lose my place. I am sure it will get better in time, the iPad is only a few weeks old at this point.
 
I find it annoying that you cant just browse a catagory freely and look at all the apps. If there is a way to do this and not just the top apps plase let me know because i hate shopping for apps atm

It certainly seems like browsing apps on the ipad itself is limited to only a very short subset of the applications.

I mean there was supposed to be 3000 apps the first week. I can tell you with absolute certainty that I can't physically get to more than about 300 apps on the app store unless I specifically search for the others by name.
 
Yes, it sucks. They only show you the featured and most popular apps, but it's a chore to find much beyond that. Terrible interface.

I'm using Appshopper.com in the meantime.

This annoys me to no end. Makes me think no one at apple bothered to test it out.
 
I'm really hoping they change it soon. The way it is now it seems like there are only around 200 apps in the entire store because the only way to get to some of them is by search.

I might be wrong with my thinking, but wasn't it also that bad with the iPhone when the app store first started? I agree it sounds rubbish (no UK iPad yet), hope it gets sorted soon. I use appshopper rss feed atm.
 
How about a queue of apps to install. I hate having to go back and forth from app to home screen every time I install or update. I usually have more than one app to install when I go into the store.

Let's all email apple and send feedback about these things. Really hope they fix these soon.
 
It needs a usability overhaul, for sure. I also wish they'd separate the iPhone store and the iPad store into two separate stores and do away with universal iPhone OS apps (but, they should have a system where developers can give you credit for buying one app to apply to another, bundle discounts, etc.).
 
Yeah, I'm having a few issues, too. So far they're not so good at organizing and making usable the chaos. Turn up the signal, turn down the noise. There's GOTTA be some sort of Apple innovation to do this at some point, otherwise it's just a big unusable mess like it is in PC land.

Speaking of signal and noise... ! That reminds me... Maybe something like Peter Gabriel's Filter could be used in the next iTunes or App Store, as well, for better recommendations...

I don't really mind the App store as it is but I wish they would have a "Recently Released" section. Separate the Apps by each day they were released. That would make things easier.
 
i saw an app on the app store on the pad and now i can't find it to save my life
some kind of artificial life thingy or something based in part on work by brian eno....anyone help me out?
this constitutes a complaint too

Yep they should handle it just like the iTunes app. Download, dumps it in a que in the download area. etc.
 
Perhaps use the iPhoto method of browsing will work. Have the basic categories (events) and then browse screen shots by hovering over the category or expanding the category and reducing the image to see hundreds or enlarge to see dozens. Image + App Name.
 
You can select Catagories at the bottom menu, select the category you want, see all, then select sort by release date at the top right.

That only shows you all the "New and Noteworty" aka featured apps that Apple wants you to see. Even when you sort by release date, it still shows Flick Fishing and God Finger at the top of the games and those have been out for weeks. There's no way to see the newest apps that aren't featured.
