I got one today, one for my brother and one for me (hes giving me the money on friday for his, and mine is still in the box sealed)...To me it seems like i fully charge the battery...and after 10-20 minutes of playing with it, and watching some videos, the battery is already near 75% !!!!!!!! i havent calibrated the battery just yet (i got it 4 hours ago)...also I read in ilounge.com that you can get about 2 1/2 hours of continous video playback before the battery dies, but this seems kinda bad... did any1 else get kinda fooled thinking we can watch video for 10+ hours atleast??? any suggestions...??? Cuz if this keeps up, im returning mine FOR SURE...and my brother, well i guess hell have to pay the restocking fee....

Uh... Who said i'd play for 10+ hours? You should have done some research at apple.com before you forked over 300+ dollars don't you think? It specifically says the amount of video playback on the site.

And when have you seen anything that plays video for 10+ ("at least"?!) hours and runs on battery? Lower your expectations for the real world, or you'll be in for quite a bit of surprises.

Also, it would be a good idea to calibrate the battery before complaining.

Seems you'll be returning it

1. ALWAYS calibrate your battery first before you do anything.

2. This is not intended to be rude, but please in future I strongly advise you to do a modicum of research first before spending your hard-earned money.

Bottom line (and this can't be written anyway other than being blunt), if you choose to accept rumours over research as your basis for purchasing the iPod and ignore the demands for calibrating your battery first you are setting yourself up to be disappointed, which is a real shame as the new iPod is a stunning product.

Apple states in the technical specs of the iPod that the 30GB model has the following battery life:

14 Hours music playback
OR
3 Hours slideshows
OR
2.5 Hours Video playback

For the 60GB model:

20 Hours music playback
OR
4 Hours slideshows
OR
3 Hours video playback

Unless you are getting a good deal less than this AFTER calibrating your battery then you have nothing to complain about. These figures are readily available on Apple's website and I would suggest that you research a little the next time you spend US$300 and upwards.

For something the size of the iPod and with it's abilities the battery life is pretty good. I was hoping they would bump it up a bit more though with the new release but it seems they went for the slimming down option. Meh, I'm not often away from a powerpoint for more than about 8 hours at any one time so it doesn't bother me too much.

That's actually pretty cool. A PSP, a new iPod, so what do you do that allows you to indulge in some serious gadgetry.

I hope my reply didn't come across as patronising or harsh. Just wanted to make sure you had the facts.

And there's the answer.

I wish money wasn't an issue for me but at the moment the only way that's going to happen is if Loo-tenant Dan invests mah Bubba Gump munee in some sort of froot compnee...
