I don't know if it's just me, but I've had no problems with beta 1 whatsoever. But I've just rebooted after the beta 2 (M1 Pro max) and everything just feels a little less punchy to open. Once they are open, things feel more or less OK. But that initial wait between pressing to open eg Mail, and it appearing, seems to be a bit slower than it was yesterday.

Anyone else, or is this just me? I've attached a screenshot of my CPU load. I don't have any apps going, other than Safari, Mail and Dropbox, plus a couple of other small apps. Nothing particularly intensive.

Thanks
Ant

PS - I realise this is a very subjective observation, but...

Also, it seems to lag about <.5sec when switching between windows of different apps. I tap onto Mail when in Safari, and there's a small but noticeable delay before the app becomes in focus.

Not having that issue (Intel MBA).

I recommend stopping Dropbox to see if that fixes the issue. Stop it completely (i.e. any daemons it may have running).

I’ve decided to wipe and do from scratch. One question though, I can’t seem to find anywhere that states about how to install the beta profile clean. In other words, no Monterey first, even if it is just a case of installing it, then immediately upgrading it to Ventura. Am I missing something? I recall in the past having to create a bootable USB of some kind for this, but I don’t think I’ve ever done it for a beta?

Never judge performance (CPU, battery, etc) immediately after upgrading the OS. Depending on the nature of the upgrade, yeah, some things could be sluggish where they otherwise wouldn't be. Generally, performance will return to normal 'soon'.

I didn't notice any particular degradation in performance when I moved from B1 to B2 (16" M1 Max), but we almost certainly will have a different app profile, disk usage situation, etc.

I've been installing betas across all my devices for a number of years, so yes you're right in that things can even out but the system was essentially unusable, and didn't look after 3 days to be getting any better. The previous beta had very few issues (if any, really) but this was one that had to be corrected.

Now that I've got a fresh install, everything seems great. Must've been just one of those things.

I feel launching applications in macOS is slow overall.

Also opening save file and print dialogs take too long.
