Is it me or no CD-TEXT in iTunes?

Maybe I'm missing it but I don't think so. If Apple wants to stay with AAC they are going to have to support CD-Text.

I'm not liking only seeing track numbers ... At least with an MP3 CD you can display tag info.

Why at this late stage would Apple still not support CD-Text for Audio CDs?

um, iTunes has always accessed the CDDB for track info... any time you insert a CD, it looks up all ID info. And all music purchased comes complete with full tags.

edit: did you mean, when burning? that's a good question...

yeah.. i have missed this feature. Ever since i got my audio card, however, i have not burned too many cds anyway.

As stated, the CD Tags are present with a Store-bought CD. If you are connected to the internet at the time you mount the CD, it will consult the CDDB for the Tag information like Track name, artist, genre, etc.

If you mount and Rip a Store-bought CD without a connection, you will get the "Track 1, Track 2", etc. However when next you connect, select the track(s) in question, go (in iTunes) to the menu "Advanced/Get CD Track Names" - it will consult, and return your tags.

But I'm thinking you're wonderin why the iTunes can't get CDDB Tag info from burnt CD's. The answer to this technically is that iTunes, MusicMatch, etc. don't encode the tags at burntime.

Apple has begin to use this "feature" as further motivation to buy the Store-bought CD and will probably not change their stance.

One way around this is to have a Data CD burned with the MP3's you seek, or grab them through a network. TThen dropping them into iTunes.

Actually, NONE of what you talked about has anything to do with CD TEXT.
CD TEXT is where the TITLES of the CD and SONGS are written to the Audio CD in a specific format. Note that we are talking about standard Audio CDs here, not MP3 CDs.

Many CD players can read this information and display it instead of the "disk x track y" display. This is extreemly useful for larger "jukebox" players where you don't want to enter the song info for 200+ CDs.

Currently iTunes (as of Version 4.01) does not have a "use CD TEXT" option/feature. If you have Roxio Toast installed though, you can drag the songs to a Toast Audio CD window and it will import the iTunes songs, and allow you to burn a disk with CD TEXT. I think also this gets you around the "10 burn" limit for an iTunes playlist.

I like CD Text so much, and it is on so few store bought CDs, that I ripped all my existing CDs, burned new copies with CD TEXT and use them instead.
