Hello,

So I just bought a MacPro 1,1 used last week and loving it.
However I'm having 1 problem with it. Sometimes when I turn on the computer the screen doesn't show a picture however the system fully boots and I'm able to use logmein and use the system. I know my screen is good I plugged it into another system and tested it multiple times.

Now as I'm typing this up I have the side open and the fan on the video card got pretty loud for a couple minutes. (Already tried cleaning it). which makes me think even more that its the video card.

Couple times when it did boot there was a couple gray lines on the back of the wallpaper. I have attached a picture that I made to show you what it was doing. Even though I did this quickly in Photoshop. Its pretty much what it was doing.

It turned off a couple times on me as well.

I have tried 3 different cables. (NEW DVI, HDMI/DVI, SVGA(DVI ADAPTER)).

Thank You.

Ps. Sorry for my english

If I have to I will go down and buy the 5770 Apple ATI Card.

That card is well known to caking itself in dust and then overheating which then causes permanent damage. Make sure you don't have a caked in heat sink (I've seen them entirely plugged with dust).

If not, the card is probably dying and will be flaky. I had one of the same cards and had same problem some years ago. Apple acknowledged it was an issue and actually replaced it for free.

Might be worth an email to them, given how old it is I doubt they do anything and wouldn't expect them to, but since it's a known issue if you're polite and make a reasonable request, they might help you out.
