Other Is it necessary to update iOS on my iPhone 8 for security reasons?

As of right now I don't know of any malware that is out there which would put you at risk, if that doesn't change and you aren't someone who is a high enough value target for anyone to bother investing large sums of money into hacking your phone you are probably fine to leave it.
What are your concerns? If you have sensitive information, it is kinda of a given you need to always update. Otherwise, why bother thinking too much about it unless you want the features.
Your safe until your not. Nothings coming for you now, but the future is always there. It’s like not putting locks on a house, better hope nobody ever wants to test that door.
I have banks, stocks my phone. I’d rather be safe than sorry. I feel like today most people think that only super secretive government employees need protection without actually thinking how much of their life their phones hold.

Then make sure the battery is in good condition. Avoid deep discharges and rapid charges and extremely hot temperatures. And just use your phone. When 11.3 comes out Apple is releasing the switch and when your battery does go bad you’ll be able to make it shut off randomly instead of throttle instead.
My opinion, it’s too much of a risk to not update your iOS with all the various types of security concerns with Spectre and meltdown. Yes, Apple has security patches in place for those two examples, but security breaches are something that are ever-changing all the time with vulnerabilities, and iOS updates are meant to assist you in protecting your user information. It’s a risk not to update.
The fact of the matter is if you don’t update and an update is available, you leave yourself vulnerable. The slowing down of the device is frustrating and I’ve been there myself but I’d rather have a secure phone especially when using banking apps.

I could have sworn you made a thread not long ago stating you were not going to update, because you didn't want Apple to slow down your phone. In that thread, you got some very good responses as to why it is a good idea to update. And here you are asking a question that has already been answered for you.

Personally, I always keep my devices running the latest OS. I have never regretted it. The worst side effect I've ever experienced is somewhat diminished battery life, but even on 3 or 4 year old devices running the latest OS I haven't experienced significant performance issues.
The reason people could jailbreak is due to finding holes and vulnerabilities in the OS. It makes sense for Apple to plug all the holes that they can find and that are reported, less someone's phone gets exploited in a bad way etc.
Not being able to Jailbreak means Apple is doing a much better job with the OS, in my opinion.
Some people like to have more control over the layout and function (to some extent) of their phone. And said people are happy tinkering with their phone, even if it means exploiting holes in the OS.
I prefer Apple's way. I used to tinker and it doesn't appeal to me anymore.
I can remember converting videos so they would play on various mp3/4 type players...then there was the whole flashing ROMs on android thing.
Today I'm content with the choices I'm given, which are ample. Life is too short for me at least to bother with much more. Illness puts things into perspective.

In my younger days I used to spend a lot of time playing around with OS and custom ROMs starting from windows mobile up to iOS and everything in between but with time and age it turned out that such things couldn’t be a priority in my life anymore.
Apple will let you choose throttling for stability, or not, in iOS 11.3. This is not a concern for the 8 or X series though. Perhaps it will be someday... as newer OS features and app updates will be designed for newer and faster hardware, but I wouldn’t worry about that until iOS 13.
