This happened to my friend. She updated her iPhone but she turned off iCloud. But seems like it enabled default and backup the system data to iCloud. Because she has found out today morning an email alert saying iCloud has maxed out 5GB of storage. Is this a normal situation?

although I use iCloud for syncing apps across devices, my actual iPhone backups have always been to iTunes on my Mac. I like to have a local copy. I noticed that after updating to ios13 my iPhone’s settings had changed to make it backup to iCloud. I changed it back..
