Hi. My friend is looking to buy a used mac studio online. In the pictures posted, the seller shows the back of the box, which shows the part number as Z14J0001X. Model number still shows A2615, but this seems to be a non-US based Mac Studio. A few questions.

1. Is it safe to buy?

2. If anything goes wrong with the Mac Studio, can it still be taken to an Apple Store (within the US) to get serviced? Or does Apple not repair non-US based Macs?

3. I also noticed on the back of the box, after it shows the hard drive capacity, it says ZEE. So it looks like this, /512GB/ZEE. What does this mean?

The seller also stated they are the original owner, and purchased it off Amazon last year. But it's strange because I don't recall Amazon selling Mac Studio's, but maybe they did last year? I know they don't right now. I only have seen Mac Studio Display, not Mac Studio (desktop).

I would stay away from that purchase. If I am not mistaken, warranty has to go through the original country of purchase. The electrical plug may also be different, amongst other things. Too many red flags with that purchase.

Advise your friend to buy from Apple online, Apple Refurb store, or a retailer like BestBuy.

I've no idea about the desktop line-up, am qualified however to state that the laptops are covered internationally. But my experience is solely based on an OS purchase directly through Apple and then also being able to purchase AC+ retrospectively withing the 60 day period once back in the home country.

But yes, I agree, prior purchase from Amazon, plus from overseas at that, is just too much of a gamble.

Purchased my MacBook in the US and used my Factory AppleCare in Asia without issue.

Does this mean you believe it would be safe for my friend to buy this Mac Studio? Although the situation is reversed. Purchased from out of Country (it seems).

I was wrong about AC+ coverage possibly not being world wide. I was thinking Macs were same as phones, which they aren't. I just looked up my AC+ coverage on my M3 Pro.

"Please note that if you seek service under this Plan in a country other than your country of purchase,

the service fee will need to be paid in that country’s currency and at that country’s applicable rate – for

further details, including regarding applicable fees by country, please visit the AppleCare+ support

website at apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/."

I don't know all the details, so I can't tell you with certainty if the Mac is safe to purchase. If it still has the factory warranty, you would be covered anywhere in the world where Apple or an AASP services said device.

The part number indicates this Mac Studio was designated for the Ukranian Market. Amazon does not have an official site in Ukraine. I'm not saying this device isn't legit, but I would pass.
Yup, I think we are going to pass. I also just called Apple and they confirmed that if you want to service a Mac Studio, it would need to be serviced in the country of Origin.

Thanks everyone in this thread for all your help. You have saved us a huge hassle!

I think that's a smart move but the Apple Rep was incorrect, they are covered internationally.

Apple provides global service coverage for Apple-branded desktop computers, server products and portable computers, meaning those that can operate independently without a power cord. If you seek service in a country other than the country of purchase, Apple may repair or exchange the defective product or part with a comparable product or part that complies with local regulatory standards.

Sounds very fishy. I’d steer clear of this. Probably is also much cheaper than expected… sounds like a scam.

Like AppleRobert said above in reply 2, buy from a "known good" source, even if it costs a little more.

Apple online refurbished (if they have it where you are) is a good choice.

Apple really needs to train their consumer facing employees better.
