Is it osx or is it the printer??

I bought a hp p1102w wireless printer to use at work I wanted to get the printer away from my dust making machines. well either the install software can't find my network automatically (airport extreme on default with one password protected setup). or the software crashes. the newest version of the software does not find the network at all) This is on two win7 computers. brought it home and installed the drivers and still can do wireless the HTML config ether comes up with errors or shows a blank window.

I can't see the printer listed as "AirPrint" capable, but that would only prevent it from working on your Mac's...If it works on Windows PC's then it's probably not compatible with AirPrint.

You can get around this with the installation of a couple of old apps, but check that they are ML compatible first.

This fools the printer into working with your Mac, and ipad and phone if you have them, but it's limited to basic printing. If the HP isn't Airprint ready, the Envy range and the Epson 535SXWD are a couple of inkjets that are...HP also make lasers which will work with the technology built into the OS.

with the firmware update it is plus eprint. I found several videos showing it working and how to connect it. but everytime I try the html config it crashes.

Maybe the firmware in the printer itself is corrupt? It can happen.

not sure how you would fix that. I updated it on my win7 machine but went ahead and did it on my mac too. the software crashes before it seems to even connects or find my wireless setup.
I have never had a problem with a hp printer till now.

I'd try a complete wipe on all printers and a fresh install of the up to date software...try the basic driver alone first. If that won;t work, then contact HP...It would be what they would ask you to do before a warranty replacement anyway.

did that. the printer works fine with usb. on both win7 and ml but three different apps to install the wireless part fail on 2 win machines and two macs.

Sounds like the wifi part of the printer is fried....Any warranty left?

it's brand new. but I bought it from newegg so it is more work to return it.

You could try tech support, but I'm pretty sure you got a dud, get a swap out, I've never dealt with new egg (I'm UK based) but they will have to replace it for you.

I have been so busy I had no time for tech support. But what can they do about crashing software? it has to be the printer causing it since it is the same on 4 different computers.

That's what leads me to the wifi card in the printer, it's U/S contact them and arrange a swap out, it's brand new..

I really should have just gotten a ethernet printer and ran a cable but I thought wireless would be easy (G) sawdust and printers don't work well together.

It does, I have an Epson SX5353WD, totally wire free, works with all three Macs, my iphone and iPad, and can be configured for Windows, although I'm all Mac. You just got a dud, it happens, good luck with the replacement. When set up and working wire free is great...My printer is actually on a desk in my bedroom and not hogging desk space..

I don't print often at home. at work only a few times a week. then it is on my desktop computer. anymore there is not much to print out. Thats why I bought such a cheap laser printer sicne i don't need a great looking page.

I've given up trying to make a P1102W work wirelessly with my MacBook Air and HP's documentation/support is worse than useless. I've tried two to rule out a faulty wireless card, and both have been the same as you've experienced - can't find on network, errors in HTML config, etc.

Can anyone recommend a mono laser that will work with Airprint out of the box?

I think I saw that they are working on ml support. But I think it is the software in win7 too that keeps locking up. I was debating on getting a wireless print adapter as I could do so for the cost of sending the printer back. but I just hooked it to my airport extreme. that way it is away from the sawdust.

yesterday, after a few hours of trying to get the p1102w to work via my retina mpb w/mountain lion, i was about to call it quits when i remembered that i had a snow leopard macbook in the other room. installed it and set it up with the macbook and now it works perfectly with all my devices (using airprint).

Donb't know if it is applicable for all HP's, but it's a little more involved than a plug-play.
You have to hook ihe printer up to (in mycassee, my wife's PC laptop) and some stuff before I got MY iMac to work wirelessly.

I googled OJ6450 mac and found the info.

I refuse to work for hours for less than minimum wage troubleshooting HP's dysfunctional printers. Seriously, a more un-Mac-like experience than getting one to work I cannot imagine. And the literature that comes with it/online might as well be written in ancient Sanskrit. **** 'em. Life's too short.

I've sent two HPs back, now I'm looking at Canon, Epson and Samsung. Unfortunately, a cursory googling shows these also have problems with Airprint. Clearly, we're still the poor relation of Windows in this segment of the peripherals market. I yearn for the day when Apple reenters it.

Yes, in fairness, I couldn't get the bloody thing to work wirelessly with my Lenovo notebook running Windows 7 either.

OK. I finally got one of these damn things to work by setting it up with my Windows PC (tortuous, "plug and play" my ass), and from there was able to get my MacBook to see it on the wifi network and set it up accordingly. But what a carry-on. It's taken me a week to figure it out.

To use a cliché the Americans are fond of, AirPrint ain't ready for primetime IMO.
