I have an iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 I never upgraded cause i wanted to get it unlocked and was told by someone it be better not to upgrade. Anyway now a few apps require me to have 4.3 or higher. I want to upgrade to 5.1.1 I know apple has stopped signing it but I saw in other threads that there are ways to downgrade back blobs/shsh/tinyumbrella/redsnow.

Is it possible to Upgrade to 5.1.1 or you can only get 5.1.1 if you have had it before?

Sorry you can't .Need your SHSH file for upgrade.May be try to jailbreak with current version.

you can only get it if you have your blobs saved either manually or by cydia.

if you are jailbroken check top of main page in cydia it should give the SHSH's available for your phone

My phone isn't jailbroken. If i Jailbreak it then would it be possible to upgrade to 5.1.1?

if is isn't jailbroken and you did not save the blobs manually there is no way to upgrade to 5.1.1

you can however upgrade to 6.01 and still preserve your baseband to have it unlocked by ultrasn0w when jailbroken.

you can also get an IMEI (factory) unlock by buying one online for a few $ depending on the original carrier. In that case you can upgrade to 6.01 without ever having to worry about unlocking.

If I upgrade to ios 6.0.1 will I be able to jailbreak and unlock later on?

Thanks for all the help guys.
