i have some flv files that need VLC to open while QuickTime handles the others is there a way in iOS 11 where clicking a file type opens it in the appropriate app. Can you associate different file types to be opened by certain apps. I'm not in the beta so I don't know if this is obvious or not. I just know there is some king of file/folder system.

It depends from where. If you have a file in Safari you get the Open/Open With options and Open With sets the default from then on for Open. Most other apps don’t have this dialog and don’t have an Open option at all (Files app included) in which case its always the case you need to use the share sheet and pick an app.
