No. It was included in the ‘09 to 14’ models but not after that.

M1 Macs will not boot Intel startup disks and vice versa.

However bootable USB installers can boot either. EG a bootable USB installer created on an M1 Mac will boot and can be used on an Intel Mac and vice versa.

I could be wrong, but I think the wording of the thread isn't actually what the OP wants to do.

I think they want a Target Display Mode solution, rather than just booting one Mac's drive on another Mac.

Yes, you're are right. Apologies. I was responding to the thread title, ignoring the bit in the OP about just using the iMac 27 as a display, which had been answered by @acorntoy.

It is understandable. The thread title is asking a completely different question than what the OP is looking to do.

OP: Maybe change the thread title to better reflect what you are asking?

Also, look into Luna Display:

It is probably the best solution to what you want to do.
