After the ticket and points got tripled over New Year’s Eve, I need a hands free unit. I use two phones, one private and one from work. Is it possible to connect air pods to both phones (iPhone and doro) and receive calls on both?

Should be able to, I believe - you’ll just have to manually switch between the two each time.
Well, that is an disadvantage, had hoped they did switch automatically like most of the hands free does. Hmm, have to do some more research then

If both iPhones/iPads are logged into the same iCloud account, with 2 Factor Auth enabled, the AirPods will switch between the devices, depending on which is currently being used.

If both devices cannot be logged into the same iCloud account, you could pair the AirPods manually to the second device using the "Use AirPods with a non-Apple device" Reason to follow the "non-Apple device" is because both devices are not logged into the same iCloud, but the concept remains the same, just connect the AirPods manually via Bluetooth.

Hope that helps.
