I've never used Chrome much. I went from Firefox to Safari and I had Chrome on my Macs that I would bring up sometimes to do comparisons between browsers.

Then one day a work buddy mentioned how Chrome "takes over" Windows and so he refused to even install Chrome. Sure enough, a few months later, I find Chrome (having not used it in months) doing something -- I could really figure out what.

So I uninstalled it and haven't loaded it back up.

But... I'm re-learning Ruby On Rails and their system tests uses ChromeDriver which needs Chrome (I guess -- perhaps that's not true if I get a different ChromeDrive).

Long story short: what to others do that need Chrome for such things as testing to keep it from installing lots of bogus stuff that you don't really want and doing things that you don't want it to do?

I despise Chrome, but I need a Chromium-based browser at work sometimes. Instead of using Chromium, I’ve been using the Microsoft Edge beta for macOS - renders the same as Chrome but without any of the Google garbage attached. Most Chrome extensions should be compatible with it.

99.5% of the time I use Safari, which I’ve been using since ’06.

Brave seems to be having problems right now. The first time I tried, it couldn't resolve the hostname. (I have two ISPs, tried both). Now it gives what might be JSON output.

I'm trying to throw all this into a VM but I currently am stuck getting an X11 server up on an Ubuntu VirtualBox VM.
