Who needs the Stocks app? Can I just delete it via SSH?

Im not sure but I think if you delete SBSettings the icons will still be hidden.

When I loaded my backup from my 1gen iPhone (jailbroken with Stocks, contacts, iTunes and some other icons hidden) to my 3GS the Stocks, contacts and iTunes icons where missing

Really? That's very interesting. I will try it. I don't think SBSettings is fully compatible with 3.0 just yet. :p

Yes, if they were hidden before, they'll remain hidden (even if you haven't jailbroken).

See: http://thebigboss.org/2009/06/17/iphone-30-preparation/

"9) If you have hidden any apps using poof, sbsettings, bossprefs or such, you should unhide them all prior to updating to avoid issues. Go to settings, enable restrictions, enter a password, then disable restrictions. That should unhide all apps you care about making you update worthy in one easy step."

YES. I accidentally deleted SMS application (or its files that make it tick) by accident the other day when I meant to delete the SBSettings folder :(

FAIL.

Some fail! How'd you manage that? :D
JK. I'll just put Stocks, iTunes & App Store apps next page over.
