Is it possible to disable iCloud completely?

I'm considering purchasing another new 17" MacBook Pro within a few
weeks. Obviously it will be Lion equipped, with iCloud deeply
embedded. I'm very eager to experience Lion.

My personal highly secure home network is very robust, stable & fast.
It includes NAS, fiber optics & wi-fi. Fully sorted & trouble free, I
plan on keeping it away from all clouds.

Currently my Macs are centered on OS X 10.6.5.

I have no need for the Mac app store or iCloud. It's not that I have
anything against Apples "progress", it just doesn't factor into my needs, preferences, or system.

I'd like to buy a new MBP to enjoy Lion, without iCloud.

Is this possible?

Is it possible to use iCloud on a very closely controlled, limited basis for some casual writing or notes, using documents such as Pages only?

In other words, does one have the ability to control exactly what goes up to iCloud?

I could see how that might be handy, since I have a 2010 MBA that I take everywhere.

As closely as I tend to follow this, somehow I missed seeing that.

Thanks for posting that image, as they say "a pictures worth one thousand words." Once again I'm reminded of the exemplary work done by Apples' software engineers. Needless to say, that's exactly what I needed to see.

I think I'm correct in saying that it's not known yet how document syncing is going to work - whether anything from an enabled app gets pushed to iCloud, whether it's from certain folders or if there will be more flexible control. But at the moment for the other sync-able items (calendar, contacts, photo stream etc) it's all or nothing.

apps can use it, but it's up to the devs to enable it in their apps, we'll understand this more once it comes out officially.

There's no substitute for the first hand experience available once the service is launched and initial bugs are sorted out.
