One would think that it would be the most obvious thing but it doesn't seem to work. I have the same iCloud on both devices and I have the video I want to edit in my pictures app on Mac but there is no way to import that video to iMovie and when I right click on the video in my pictures app on Mac and pick "Edit in iMovie" I get an error message saying that it cannot be imported.

I guess Apple thinks that editing videos on your iPhone is superior than editing videos on any Mac?

Connect your iPhone to your computer and import it direct from there into iMovie. Do not use the cloud or photos.

Thx for the reply. I can’t do that at the moment because the MacBook Air doesn’t have a standard usb-port, I have to buy an adapter first. Was hoping that you could use the files located in the photos program. Oh well, thanks for the info.

What happens if you try to export a video from Photos to the Desktop (or elsewhere), ie. don't try to edit it in iMovie directly from Photos?

If successful, then try to import that clip into iMovie?

If you can export, but not import, check out the export settings and see if you can tweak those to something iMovie will accept...

The other option, as MSastre said is to skip iCloud and import directly: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22885?viewlocale=en_GB&locale=en_GB

It worked to drag and drop the movie from Photos to the desktop, thanks a lot!
