Although I have not seen any, is it possible in the future to have thunderbolt cards for current and old Mac Pros? If this is feasible, we can then upgrade current and old Mac Pros to make use of the benefits brought about by the thunderbolt technology.

Apple won't do it so long as the Mac Pro ships with a discrete PCI-Express graphics card.

There's nothing from stopping Sonnet, Magma, Caldigit- or anyone like that from creating an expansion card with a few TB ports on it. However it wouldn't support the display aspect of Thunderbolt at all and it would probably cost $500.

the best we can hope for is nvidia/amd to make gpus with tb ports instead of mdp/dvi (that dont require pcie3...)
