Is it possible to install the IPHONE OS onto a Mac?

Previously I heard rumors that Apple was considering a "Quick Boot" option which would allow Macs to boot directly into Front Row, or maybe into a modified version of the Iphone OS. Has anyone hacked the Iphone OS and successfully installed it onto the boot partition of a Mac?

The iPhone OS is for ARM CPUs, and will not run (at all) on Intel/PPC systems. The only possibility is if somebody pokes around with the Intel files included in the iPhone Simulator (at least I'm assuming that it's Intel-compiled).

right. such iPhone OS can be properly installed on Mac, and it's great for any further iPhone apps development. but how can i get the OS to install?

I am bumping this thread because I am wondering the same thing.

Is there any way, through virtualization or emulation, to try the iphone OS in a separate window on a Mac?

Wouldn't this be great for iPhone App. developers?

If you want to recompile the entire thing to run on x86, go right ahead.

It runs on ARM processors. It is simulated in the iPhone SDK. That's as close as you're going to get without some MAJOR changes.

I could have sworn I saw some 3rd party app that let you emulate the iphone OS in a window on a Mac...must have been in a parallel universe!

There is an app that allows you to control your phone via your computer. It is called Veency and it is available through Cydia.

What about this: (from another thread), pretty close to what I was asking about...

"It's easy like that:

1. Register as an iPhone software developer here at Apple

2. Download and install Software Development Kit (it's huge - 1,75 GB) - for free

3. Search with Spotlight for "iPhone Simulator" (here the desired result shows up after the i already)

4. Start iPhone Simulator.app and you'll get a nice vivid picture of an iPhone on your big screen. - And it works! (You can't make phone calls admittedly.) You can rotate it to landscape view."

EDIT:the iPhoneSimulator in the iPhone SDK is exactly what I was looking for.
