Is it possible to just install a custom .ipcc file and have "Native Tethering" on a 3GS running v3.1.2? I have used BlackRa1n RC3 to JailBreak and UnLock and I seem to remember something after running BlackRa1n RC3 that it did something to patch the CommCenter. I know there are a bunch of other ways to do a "software patch" on Cydia and Rock but I'm one of the unlucky ones that had my Visual Voicemail messed up using one of those methods. I would like to just install a custom .ipcc, reboot or reset and hit the switch and have tethering. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance...

I don't really know the answer to your question. I do know that the only method of enabling native tethering that worked for me without breaking VVM was the MyWi trick. Maybe give that a try.

To clarify, unsigned .ipcc files will not install under 3.1. In order to disable the signature requirement, you have to install some sort of hack. There are several available in Cydia, or you can unlock with blacksn0w (this is the method I used without any issues, but be aware that some people have WiFi problems with blacksn0w installed). After you install one of these hacks, you will still need to install an .ipcc file to enable the tethering.

I did use blacksn0w to unlock. If I can find a modified .ipcc (or is the one blacksn0w hacked all i need?) then what kind of "hack" do I need to install?

Can you point me in the right direction? If not, I may give the MyWi mod a try. I really would prefer the easiest way and not mess up the funtionality of my iPhone (3GS, v3.1.2).

Thanks...

If you have blacksn0w installed, all you have to do is install the custom .ipcc file. The signature check has already been disabled on your phone. Go to http://help.benm.at/tethering.php on your iPhone and choose you country and carrier. You can then download the appropriate custom .ipcc file. Install it (even though you get the warning that it's unsigned) and restart and you'll be tethering in no time. It takes maybe 2 minutes all told.

Couldn't ya just pay a paultry 9.99 and buy MyWi and not only get tethering but the advantag of making it a mobile hotspot? I mean, its ten bucks for a good app....I dont know just dont see the fuss of going through hoops. Best of luck to ya

What hoops? All s/he has to do is download and install one tiny free configuration file from the link I posted. Takes even less time than installing MiWi and Rock, and it's free!
