How can I make a Mac Service (DevonTechnologies WordService) available to an application not listed in System Settings for Services?

If I haven't made this clear, you won't offend me by asking me to explain what I mean.

macOS 15.1.1
MacBook Pro M1 Pro

Thanks for any help.

While not 100% sure, I don't think so. I believe that is an app level (support or don't support) decision... not some hack or toggle to throw somewhere.

Best bet is to probably contact the developer and ask them to support it in Services... and then hope for an update to that app that does indeed show up with support.

I use Wordservice quite a bit myself and would certainly want access to it in anything where it can benefit writing.

If I'm wrong about the above, I encourage you to name the specific app so that someone who uses it too and has found a way could give you the specific answer you seek.

Seems as if it's dependent on whether the app reports text selections to services, from Devonthinks website:

Be aware many native Mac applications report text selections, e.g., Pages or Safari, but not all do. Services depend on what the current application reports, so you’ll have to test with the specific apps you’re using.

You could build your own AppleScript/Shortcuts that could perform most of the Wordservice tasks and activate them from a keyboard shortcut or menubar.

I was afraid that someone might mention building or writing my own AppleScript!

I have followed a few (maybe half a dozen?) 'follow this step-by-step tutorial' to build an AppleScript and have succeeded in getting the Script working as intended once. I was pretty chuffed about that once, but I wish I could repeat it more often.

It's not possible for OpenLP.
OpenLP appears to be a self-contained python application, so no macOS menus and services are available in it.

Not sure which services you relied on but Devonthink has a shortcut that replicates the Insert Short Date & Time service. See this forum post for the download link.

I’m looking for other things in their services, not just the date tools.

But maybe I have misunderstood your post.

Thanks for this. I sort of half expected an answer like that but I was hoping for a different one.
