Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to purchase an ADC Student membership at an Apple store or if it is only possible to be done online. I just wanna go in a store and buy the membership along with a discounted MBP.

If anyone knows, it will be lots of help. Thanks.

Oded S.

As far as i know you have to sign up for it online... Ive had 4 friends do it.
Since we dont have an Apple store in Louisiana, its the easiest way to handle it. They Require you to send in proof of being a student, so youll will probably have to FAX or email them your Schedule.

Nope, online only from the special ADC store (link on the developer.apple.com site). Education discounts, however, can be used in retail stores, all you need is a student ID and some other form of identification (driver's license, etc.)

Thanks for the info.

Do I have to study computer science in order to get the discount?

Nope its made for anyone who is interested in creating software for OS X. They Dont require you to actually produce anything.
just dont tell anyone ;) :D

The ADC student membership and buying a computer with the ADC discount can only be done online through their special store.

As for qualifying, you just need to be a student "interested in developing for Apple". They do not require that you are a programmer or that you actually produce anything.

What is the UK ADC discount?

How does that compare to buying a computer through their Education store (with the extra discount you get from accessing it from a university terminal - i.e. the Higher Education store)

Thanks

Is it possible to get a membership if you are not at University??? I am going into the 6th form (college) next year and am intersted in development software as well as hardware.

Anyone can get the discount and pre-release software, by being a regular developer. That costs $500 per year and you can use the discount once a year. Only university students are eligible for the $99 limited version, it gets you the ADC discount once in your lifetime, ie. renewing does not get it again, and you don't get pre release software.

The ADC discount on high end systems is can be as much as $200 off of the educational price, however it is not worth it on the cheaper systems because the additional discount is less than the $99 you have to spend to get the discount.

Yup.
You get abuot 500$ discount on a 17" MBP even after paying up for the student membership, or more if you upgrade the memory or buy other stuff along with it.
