Is it possible to retrieve my Notes that disappeared in iOS9?

I had like 30 notes (on my iPhone5), and since I updated to iOS9, I now have only 2 notes. Both are listed in "on my phone" and none in iCloud and none in my attached Gmail. Is it possible to get them back? If so, how and where?

Funny thing #1 is I thought they were all "on my phone" previously.
Funny thing #2 is *all* of my notes were in a gmail folder called Notes and saw them just a few days ago. Now? Gone. Seems iOS has caused them to disappear from gmail as well.

So I looked but I can't get them from gmail. I can't figure out if it's possible to get them from itunes with my phone plugged in, and I do fairly regular Time Machine updates, but I don't know where Notes would be stored on my Mac. Besides I don't think I backed up my phone to my Mac in ages.

Any suggestions please?

Open iCloud on desktop browser. Check if it's there?

icloud on www.icloud.com stores backups of personal data such as contacts/notes. Maybe there is a chance it is there

Unfortunately, it's not on iCloud.com, I should have mentioned I already checked there.

Matrix, thanks, but what is a "desktop browser?"

I probably should have made sure Notes was backed up on iCloud, but I never in a million years expected an update would cause a loss. I'm stunned.

do you have an itunes backup before the update by chance?

if so iexplorer may help

Hi Deany, thanks for answering. It looks like I have one from last month. But how do I find the Notes part and restore it to my phone? I've nosed around it but can't figure it out?

Good news that you have a backup.

VIMP: I would _create a copy_ of this itunes backup to a USB drive/ pen drive before tinkering with it. Do make sure its the correct one.

I guess you are okay where the itunes backup is located on your Mac.?

Is it worth spending $ to register?

Others can help better than my limited experience with ieplorer but here is the link-

this explains what the software does. It managed to extract important data from my itunes backup on their demo version. But you may have to register the software for its full potential.

I hope this helps sort things for you and get your notes back.

Actually, I'm sorry. I have no idea where the itunes backup is located. Would you tell me the file path? Even still, how do I go about restoring Notes from that backup? functionality

Thanks for the suggestion of iexplorer, but they only let you download the application, but do not let you demo it in any fashion. This may not have always been the case, but now, you have to register to get any functionality. So registering isn't about letting you get the most of it; it's the only way to use it.

Obviously I didn't download from that link then because I used the demo the other day.

I'm not sure where I downloaded it from cnet rings a bell. I stay well clear of 'dodgy' websites as we all do.

Under MAC HD/USERS/shared/ (is this is the right way to access the Library?)

there is ~/LibraryApplication Support/Adobe . . . and that's all.

Is it possible that the sync is in a different location?

I would do a spotlight search but mine seems corrupted. Every time I open it, it freezes and I get the spinning beach ball.

"On your iPhone" refers to any notes that are not linked to any email account. This can happen if (a) you created a note without having the Notes feature enabled on any email account, or {perhaps} (b) You created a note when you had poor connectivity such that your Gmail connection was not alive at the time, or {likely} (c) iOS is not playing nice with your Gmail notes.

Notes linked between iOS and Yahoo or Gmail accounts are notoriously flakey, definitely not as reliable as those linked to an iCloud account. Sometimes they disconnect and your iPhone stops syncing or displaying them. Go to your Gmail account on a computer and look for a random Notes label (on the list of labels, or in your Gmail settings where you can manage your labels). Chances are that you may find your old notes there and nowhere else (not even visible in the iOS Mail app, where you see all your other Gmail labels).
