Is it possible to upgrade hard drive in AppleTV?

Well I've only had my AppleTV for 2 months and love it! The only problem I have now is the 40 gig hard drive seems so small! I used to stream my content but sometimes it didn't play as well and it's nice and simple to sync it. Then I don't have to worry about if I left my laptop open
My question: I am sure it will void the warranty but is it possible to upgrade the hard drive in the AppleTV? If so, are there instructions online or is hard? There are many 160 gig options available and I even see 200 and 250 gig options. Since Apple is going to have a 160 gig version of Apple TV available on Thursday I'm wondering if I'm better off simply buying that and selling the one I have.

You should bear in mind that the AppleTV is PATA, which I think means the largest HD out there is only 160GB, not 200/250GB.

Thanks for mentioning that. I was only familiar with SATA and haven't heard of PATA so will make sure I find the right drive.

More specifically, the interface is ATA-6. As mentioned, the largest ATA-6 drive available is 160 gigs. I just put a 160 gig Samsung drive in my ATV last week. It's not hard, just a bit time consuming. I used the Engadget method, except that I couldn't expand the Media partition using the command line. So I bought iPartition for $45 to do that part.

The time consuming part is imaging your ATV hard disk. Mine took about 6 hours on my 1.66 ghz core duo mini. Putting it back onto the new drive only took about 20 minutes, though.

If you do it, you should activate ssh so you can turn on AFP to mount the ATV volumes on your computer.
