Well, on the apple website it says USB 2.0 needed, now I got the problem; My laptop doesn't have that, it has USB's, but no 02's. So my question is, is it really needed to have USB 2.0's or will it just be slower?

Actually, since I'm here already, let's throw in another one:
I currently got 700,- EU. Now was I wondering since the current state of my laptop, 2GB ram, 1.7GHz pentium something if I should save for the new MBP? I will be getting one next year for my studies anyways, so which one should I buy first? iPad and wait till end next year, or buy MBP now and get it 6 months sooner? This laptop can currently multitask Photoshop and Illustrator, MSN and dreamweaver, but I'm wondering (< I know, I did photoshop and AI at 512MB ram  )

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Forget about using USB 1.1 it's way to slow to do anything with an iPad.

USB 1.1 max speed 1.5 MB/s

USB 2.0 max speed 57 MB/s

16gb ipad would take about 3 hours to sync under best case.

Well, that doesn't really leave me with much. I may get lucky with microsoft and get an extra 400 something, but I don't know. If I do get that; No iPad : iMac now and MBP later or; MBP soon, iMac later, iPad even later. Im confused now.

Saw you redid your calculation ;) I was shocked when I red 178

You're confused? What are you spitting about 512mb ram when you have 2GB? What do you mean by 400 something from Microsoft?

That are the tasks I used to do with 512MB before I updated it to 2GB. I got something microsoft has interest in, which I might sell.

Assuming there isn't an compatibility issue, of course you can use your USB1. Just anticipate everything will be slower and plan workarounds like syncing when you go to sleep.

Yes, which is why I was wondering if I should get the iMac first, then the iPad, next year MBP for study.

Or:
Macbook, iPad, MBP,
or
MBP, ipad, iMac,
Or
just MBP and iPad.
Or
Just iPad now, MBP next year.

Don't base your decision on USB speed.

If you want the 'pad now, get it.

You can stream most content anyway.

Umm how about changing your subject line to "Is USB 2.0 needed?".

Good grief.

I'll see what they have to offer me. Since you're in boston, you could buy me an iPad, amiright? :D

500 what?

Ummm...500 of the 400 he was going to get for it?

I have a suspicion that it's a solution to the problems with iPads missing headphone jacks. Or maybe even allow my wi-fi iPad to get turn by turn directions when I'm not in a wi-fi area. It might even predict the future and tell you what time Apple is going to announce 3G availability.

I'm just hoping I can outbid the 400 and pay 500 for it.
