I know there were a lot of problems in downloading and installing Apps when you did it directly from the iPhone on 2.0 and 2.01. Is it still that way or has it improved at all with 2.02?

sure, why not?

I have had success with dls from both the appstore on the iphone and via itunes.

I've had to restore my iPhone about five times from it crashing during installs, so I would wait until the 2.1 firmware personally. I've been burned too many times with iPhone installs.

Agreed. I know a lot of people were saying that iTunes 7.7.1 was the culprit for the "apps all crashing/music missing" problem that many people had, and that downgrading to just 7.7 fixed the issue for some -- but I can't see how it's NOT also the iPhone software too. After all, I rarely EVER synced my phone to iTUnes, and usually only downloaded apps OTA straight to my phone -- and that's when I eventually got my problems of ALL my apps not opening and my music disappearing.

I refuse to download another app or update until 2.1 is here, and enough people say it's safe. I can't go through another reset/restore/replacement...

I have always had problems with 2.0 and 2.1 when downloading apps directly from my iPhone. It just sits there and loops with installing and never finishes. Since then... I have only used iTunes to get my apps. Just was wondering if it is better now with 2.02? Maybe 2.1 on Friday will solve all the problems.

Well... I would say yes but last night while installing an update my phone crashed and I had to spend a few hours restoring it.

Then again, I'm updating an app right now :p.

+1

Same issues here. If it crashes during an install (and it's happened to me ALOT on 2 different phones) you will need to do a full restore. I'd wait until Friday.

I've never had to restore on any of my iPhones downloading from the app store on the phone! (2G and 3G)

It's been fine!

I wouldn't worry. I had 6 pages full of apps.. and not needed to restore even once :)

The trick is. Never do anything with your iPhone while it updates. Just leave it there and DON'T TOUCH IT! :p

I wouldn't dare. I just lost all my information because I stupidly decided to update an app on the phone. Apple logo of death... and then it wouldn't switch on.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (16GB, 2.0.2 JB'd): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

This problem has been resolved by the 2.1 software. :D
