So I'm using Toast 8 on my Macbook to try and recover this video DVD, which I must say was not badly damaged at all - I could get about 2.6 out of 2.9 GB of data just copying in the finder. Well it went 59% before hitting any errors. Seven days later, it was at 79%. It's now at 81% creeping along at a rate of 1-2% a day.

So I've been running my MacBook optical drive in data recovery mode constantly for a week, with the prospect of a weeks more or even longer if I wanted to recover this DVD. THis is absolutely ridiculously slow. Is it likely that I will permanently damage my optical drive by running it so long? Should I abort?
