Is it safe to update my new MacBook Air M1 2020

Hello

I am wondering if it is safe to update my MacBook Air that runs on Big Sur, That I just got today. I have read that some are experiencing that it bricked their Mac. I don't have an external hard drive to backup my Mac, so I will not be able to restore the system, if their isn't any other way to do so

I have nothing but great experiences with apple products and updates, so to me it sounds weird that it would be any problems updating, I guess I'm just worrying about nothing. downloading newest update now

I mean, I've seen instances here before when something broke after the update indeed, but what are the chances? enough cases for him to be concerned to upgrade his brand new MacBook?

Everything went great

I updated my M1 MBA and everything went fine. No problems at all initially.
Strangely my Apple mouse stopped scrolling just now. I disconnected it and reconnected and it's fine again now.
No other "problems" at all so far.

Mine seems fine too, to be honest not noticed any difference yet apart from the wallpaper!
