In my sig is my MBP that I bought, and love it. Question I'm asking myself is.. would it be worth while to even consider upgrading to a new MBP and selling this one or just sticking with this one?
The main part of getting a new MBP would be for my gaming with WOW. Thats really where I would need the horse power.
Thoughts?
Depends on how rich you are of course but no, it wouldn't be worth it.
The only major difference is in the GPU, and it's still only like say 40% faster, sure that's an improvement but what will you do at the next update? Buy a new macbook again?
Buying new computers are rarely a good economical idea, laptops doesn't differ from that, maybe even less since they are more expensive, high end components even less since their price at the performance point falls much faster than something which are already on the mid- or lowend, so a macbook pro or similair highend laptop is an even worse buy in that perspective.
If you really want better gaming performance in wow just get a conroe cpu, motherboard, ram and whatever graphics card you can afford. I guess you might already have hdds, dvd-drives, keyboard and mouse. It might cost slightly more than your macbook pro update would be but you will probably get better performance than from the new macbook anyway, and you get two computers to begin with (lets you play in Vista without having to leave OS X aswell..)
If you can save money from say two hardware revisions of the macbook pro it will let you buy an even better gaming rig.
Or you could wait for WWDC and see if steve releases a more gaming friendly desktop with a good pricing point, thought I very much doubt it and it will probably be more money than your update of the macbook pro.
But anyway, upgrading laptop each half year and lose what? $800 each time? Is stupid.
Use your macbook pro as a very decent laptop, and get a gaming rig if optimal performance is what you need.
