Hi all
Currently running lion on my MBA. Not had any problems with it. I have been debating for a while, if its time to move to Mountain Lion. However I wanting to know from users who moved from Lion to Mountain Lion what benefits they have got from this move?

Or would you say if your happy with Lion then stick with it, unless I just want the latest and greatest.

thanks in advance.

Well, I'm having issues with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, and judging by the many comments on forums across the internet, I'm not alone.

It seems that there are issues with the sandboxing security infrastructure in 10.8.3.

I got 10.8.0 when it first came out, then updated to 10.8.1.

In over 6 years as a Mac user I have NEVER had issues with my OS, either installing it, or just using it, until now. There have been changes to features that I did not like, but the underlying OS was basically sound...

Until now. There are broken pieces under the hood in 10.8.2 from what I read on other sites. It's as if Apple hired a bunch of ex- Microsoft programmers - it's the kind of inconsistencies and lack of attention to detail I associate with MS, not AAPL.

Perhaps the firing of some key execs recently will get Apple away from meeting an arbitrary deadline, ready or not, and back to the quality that made them great in the first place...

My advice is to wait just a few more weeks - 10.8.3 is due very soon, and I'm hoping it takes care of these issues...

EDIT: or move to 10.8.1 only, if you can manage that - stay away from 10.8.2!

Although 10.8.2 works fine most of the time, I have to agree. Stay with 10.8.1 for now and then move straight to 10.8.3 early January.

With rumors building rapidly around 10.9, I would not make a move at this time.

It seems that 10.8 is not going to be around much longer. Apple appears to be on a tear to compress the amount of time each rev of 10.x is on the market, perhaps to use it as an influence to sell more computers.

Although that doesn't make a lot of sense, Apple is not making a lot of sense in many areas recently.

hey all
thanks for your views. I think going by what you guys are saying. I will stick to Lion and wait and see what everyone's experience is with 10.9. Before I consider changing :)

I'm on 10.8.2 and have no complaints. I understand the reasoning behind waiting for a .2 or .3 release, but I don't see the point in holding off just because 10.9 is potentially around the corner. It's not like 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6, where we had a long time between releases; Apple claims that their goal is to have a major point release every year now. If you wait for 10.9 this summer, great; by the time 10.9.2 comes out, we'll be a few months away from 10.10. You'll be waiting forever.

10.8 is a bit lighter on resources than 10.7, in my experience. For me, the most important feature of 10.8 was iCloud integration, particularly with iMessage. It's more or less as Apple advertised - I can text back and forth with my family on my computer, leave to go somewhere, and continue texting from my iPhone. All devices receive the message history. When I receive a FaceTime call, my computer, iPad, and iPhone all light up at the same time, and I can take the call from any device.

Services integration is a nice feature (being able to receive Facebook notifications directly through the system notifications), but since I'm not a heavy social network user this isn't a huge thing for me.

TL;DR: it's stable, it's faster and lighter than 10.7. Even if the added iCloud integration and features aren't of use to you, those seem like good enough reasons to upgrade.
