I’m debating on whether I should upgrade my current iPad Pro to either the 2020 or 2021. I’m looking for others who were in my situation on whether they did, didn’t or if they going to be this week given the sales. I use my iPad every day, so it get a lot of use. I haven’t really noticed any huge decline in battery. Any advise would be great.

It was worth it for me to go from 2017 10.5 Pro to 2021 12.9 Pro. Battery is much better. Things that made my 2017 iPad run slow, stutter, crash, or run hot don’t even make my 2021 iPad warm at all. Apps stay in memory much longer. The mini-LED screen is a big upgrade besides the blooming.

I got the iPad $200 off, Magic Keyboard over $100 off, and 2nd gen Apple Pencil $10 off. It’s all been worth it for me and I’m very happy with my purchase. I could’ve used my 2017 model another year, but I was ready to upgrade and the discounts made it much more appealing.

I switched from the 2017 12.9 to the 2021 12.9 on day 1 (May 21).

Not a fan of iPadOS 15 so I recently decided to upgrade early from my 2017 10.5 to the 2021 11 while iPadOS 14 is still an option when Best Buy ran their $150 off discount. Didn't want to risk being forced to use 15 if I wait for a bigger discount.

Very happy overall. Webpages, etc. that used to stutter on the 2017 Pros work smoothly on the 2021 Pros and there's actually sufficient RAM now that I can multitask without one of the split views crashing. FaceID is a lot more convenient than TouchID for docked use. Also glad I can now use my Logitech Crayon interchangeably among my primary-use iPads.

The hardware on the 2021 Pros is really good. No complaints about storage or RAM being too small like I had with previous generations. The M1 is even way faster than the CPU on my Intel NUC. I think these 2021 iPad Pros might actually end up lasting me as long as my Ivy Bridge/Haswell PCs did.

Thank you, I’ll probably go with the 11inch, the 12.9 is just out of my budget. It looks nice and would be tempting for drawling, but I’ve been able manage with the 10.5, so I know the 11inch would work for me size wise.

I also updated from an IPAD Pro 12.9;2017 to the 2021 12.9 Ipad Pro. I was loving it, until today I am seeing a small black dot that looks smudged on the lower left hand side in landscape mode. I just received this IPAD this past July. I have a Genius appointment tomorrow. Hopefully they will do the right thing. I started a thread about it today.

Hopefully it will. I know back with my 2017 iPad Pro, I had a bright white dot appear and my warranty was close to two month up, so I went to the nearest Apple store (45 minutes away) and they replaced it for me right then and there, even started the transfer of my backup right at the store.

I had about 8 spotlights in landscape mode on my 2017 12.9 IPAD Pro. They appeared way after my warranty period. That's why I traded it in for the 2021 M1 IPAD Pro 12.9. Now I have a black dot in landscape mode on the new IPAD. :-(

I was thinking about upgrading my 10.5, debating either doing that or going for a 13" MacBook Pro. As it is, I've gone for a 14" Pro and will run the 10.5 as a note-taking device/second screen until it goes end of support to significantly degrades. It currently has the wide-dot above the home button and whilst annoying.... I'll just live with it for now.

At that point, I'll get whatever the current model 12.9" iPad Pro is at that time, so I'll have a nice second screen for the MacBook Pro.

I have a '17 12.9" iPad Pro that is still going pretty strong. My main issue with throwing any more money into the iPad ecosystem is that OS... it really is not a Mac OS X replacement , at least for me.

Instead I took that $1.5k and added another $1k for the new M1 Pro MBP. My 2014 MBP finally died and that sealed the deal really. However whenever I tried to do anything creative on the iPad it felt like a stop gap until I can get onto a real Mac with Logic or FCP.

I like my 2017 better as a media consumption device. It has Touch ID, holds better in the hands with its larger bezels, and the speaker is warmer with more bass. I mostly bought my 2021 as a small laptop replacement for taking notes. It is still a worthwhile upgrade overall, but for casual users like me it is a bit hard to justify the extra cost.

I just.. bought the 2021 ipad pro 11 to upgrade from a 2017 10.5 that I got in 2019 (apple refurbished)... Haven't got the pro yet.. but I decided to upgrade because I was tired of looking for my apple pencil elsewhere.. and I stuck with the pro because I heard too many "i can't go back to 60 hz and no promotion".. plus with costco, it was an $80 difference between the pro and the air so it was a no brainer.. :)

I did. From the 2017 Pro to the 2020 Pro. Reason? (1) Potential for white spot formation which would have likely killed any resale value that the 2017 unit would have got; (2) to get away from the nonsensical pencil charging system of the 2017 unit; (3) I like the form factor of the 2020 pros.

If you’re going to upgrade to a new pro, you might as well go with the 2021 M1. The M1 is a fair but more powerful, not as immediate now but will definitely be in the future, the extra 2 gigs of ram is another great upgrade. The SSD is also very fast on the 2021 models.
