Hi

Looking to treat myself to ATV2 soon, is it worth buying a jail broken version with icefilms/catchuptv/Nitro tv/navi-x & xmbc media player? or is it worth just getting one from Apple?

Are jailbroken one's easy to use?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Supereasy to do with seas0npass. The newest iOS version does require a tethered boot that not that big of deal. you can always go backwards on the iOS for an untethered version.

Realize that if you want a lot of the cool stuff the JB one does you need to have XBMC talk to play on and play on is Windows only so you will have to have windows machine or run a Virtual windows platform on a mac.

my atv2 turned up yesterday but the sod didn't have a micro usb cable?.

iv had to go and buy one but its deffo going to be jb this after.!

Depends on how much the jail broken apple tv cost ?

This here.

You can find jailbroken ones on ebay/craigslist, but if the cost is more than a few bucks above a standard model then it's probably better to just buy one and JB it yourself - it only takes a few minutes, doesn't void the warranty, and *vastly* increases the functionality. And if you change your mind and don't like the results, you can return it to retail condition with a quick firmware restore.

Re: usability, it depends on what your 'tinker' threshold is. Probably the most common enhancement is installing XBMC+icefilms... but it's a bit clunky to operate. It's perfectly functional but the interface is nowhere near as smooth as the standard ATV menus. If you're willing to pay a bit for better usability you could check out ATV Flash (by FireCore) which looks really slick but isn't quite as capable as XBMC.

Good luck!
