My current iMac is getting very old and slow now, so I'm in need of a replacement. I have the 27' model, and so I don't want to replace it with the new M1 24' model, and I don't think I can wait until the new bigger model is released.

I am seeing some iMac Pros available on the Apple refurbished site for quite reasonable prices. I know this isn't the newest machine out there, but just wondering if these are worth getting. I am quite taken with the Space Grey colour, as well as the specs.

As I said, I know they are a bit old anyway, but I'd be more annoyed if I bought one of the latest iMacs and they got replaced quickly, but this one isn't likely to anyway, if that makes sense.

It’ll still be useable for a number of years. You know full well that Apple is moving to ARM. Plus that it is a rather old model.

If it’s worth however many thousands Apple is still charging for it to you. Then it is worth it.

Personally I wouldn’t buy it. Unless I had a specific use case for it. Which required its specs.

If it’s just a matter of looks. Wait six or so years. Buy one used in mint condition for a couple hundred bucks.

I’m in the same predicament. I’ve had to revert to using Photoshop CC2019 (20.0.10) as the 22.4.1 M1 release runs like treacle on my previously happily adequate late-2014 iMac 3.5gHz i5.

The iMac Pro is tempting, but the old rule of never investing in superseded tech is still a valid one. Given Apple’s investment in M1x chips, the iMac Pro may get very old very quickly.

However, if the new 27-inch model isn’t out by autumn (and in grown-up colours), I may well be have to consider the Pro...

My current iMac is even older, I have the 2012 model. I want to hold out for the M1 model, but not sure when this will be. I'm in two minds whether to go for for a brand new iMac 27' or a second hand iMac Pro, or even to try and hang on for a bit longer.
