Hello -

I'm looking for some advice - Is it worth buying an Apple Pencil now even though it hasn't been updated since launch? Or should I wait till September for a possible v2?

I would still purchase the Apple Pencil. There has been very little rumors indicating a new Apple Pencil would debut in the fall. Otherwise, if you can wait, then you have a approximately six months before you have a more clear answer. But I would say the current Apple Pencil is still more than enough an adequate tool given its capabilities.

buy one now, doubt we will see another verson anytime soon. Not sure how they will can improve it.

I wonder if the Logitech Crayon Digital iPad Pencil will ever be sold to the general public instead of just schools.
I hope so. I really want to get the 2018 iPad for my younger daughter, along with the Crayon AND the Rugged Combo 2 case/keyboard.

If neither of them are offered for normal retail sale, I am going to have to find somebody with educational purchasing power and beg for a favor.

Any updates will likely be minor. I mean, it's a pencil. They could add a magnet to latch on the side, make the cap an eraser, introduce new colors, improve battery life. But if you need it or want it now, just get it - it's a tool.

If you buy one now and later a new one comes out, you can sell the old one. I can see college students looking to get one and not wanting to spend $90 on one. I bet you could probably get like at least half of your money back.

Besides what else could they put into the pencil? I would like to still be able to use it as a stylus when the battery is dead. Or maybe the eraser side to be used as an eraser. But other than that idk?

There are people who have said that "an update to the Pencil is imminent"...that was over a year ago. They're still waiting. Unless the current Apple Pencil doesn't meet your needs, there is no reason to wait. There is so much FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) surrounding the decision to buy Apple products that some people become paralyzed into perpetually waiting.

Examine what is currently available, determine how well it suits your needs, if it does, shop for a good price, buy it, and enjoy. Don't let the "fear of missing out" of some potentially new and better thing cause you to miss out now. :)

Because frankly, some of the stuff we wait for is pretty goofy. Nobody, absolutely nobody, looked at the 12.9 iPad Pro when it was first released and said, "ugh, the screen refresh is so annoying. It is so blurry. I'm holding out for a model that offers 120Hz refresh rate". ;)

Like others, I'd advise you to work out whether the current model will do what you want it to do and work from there.
I've only had one a few weeks, but have zero regrets on the purchase and think it does what it is designed to do extremely well.
