I don't understand the question. They are two totally different products. Please elaborate.

Do you want to watch on a 4" screen or a large TV? Can't see what one has to do with the other in terms of buying the ATV? Buy the ATV, serve your media with your Mac and when you get an iPhone5, you can airplay some other stuff to your TV.

Guys, which would be better for my needs? A 62 piece socket wrench set or a toaster?

I will take the toaster please as I do not use tools and don't know why I'd need a socket wrench set, and at 62 pieces I'm sure I'd lose some.

To the OP: Honestly these are completely different devices as others have said. Are you asking more of where to spend your money vs the technology you need?

But what if I want to make toast?

1) Arrange the sockets in a pleasing pattern inside your furnace.
2) Turn the thermostat to "warp heat".
3) When the sockets reach the correct temperature, turn off the furnace.
4) Place the bread on the heated sockets, and-
5) ???
6) Profit!

The aTV2 would work fine with an i7 MacBook Pro, since it can run the current iTunes version. The iOS5 devices, apparently, will add more functionality, however, by allowing mirroring of more material on the aTV2.

To the OP;

If you want to know how well it works to play movies and songs in your itunes account on your MBP, it's great! We do this all the time.

You can also air display directly to the AppleTV. Likewise I can also air display videos stored on the ipad, and certain items from my iphone 4.

We do all this and connect up the AppleTV to our Netflix account.

I guess it would help if you elaborated on what it is you are trying to do.
