I been reading the with a little tweaking with EL Captain installer you can install it on 2006 mac pro with the 32 bit EFI. What i was reading it the only problem is it won't boot after you install some of the updates. Apple said the last mac os is 10.7. so i was just wondering if it is worth it. thanks for the help.

I run El Cap on my 1,1, and indeed it works fine so long as you don't install the last few security updates. It is used as a basic file and backup server at my school, all locally, so we're not too worried about the security stuff. Besides, El Cap hasn't gotten any security updates for years now so I suppose there's not too much worry about it being a few more months out of date than it otherwise could be.

I looking to upgrade the motherboard in it to the early 2008 motherboard. That will run EL Captain. I read a guy made a EL Captain dvd that will install on 2006/2007 mac pro with all the updates for it. But i can't find it. I just going to install mac os 10.7 for now. Thanks for the help.

I installed it on my 2008 Mac Pro... very definitely worth it. Then I got "upgrade fever" and I managed to upgrade all the way up to High Sierra, all following the detailed instructions and tools provided by the improbably named "dosdude1" (see www.dosdude1.com).

In the end, coupled with the addition of an SSD boot volume, more RAM and two new high capacity spinning hard drives, it extended the working life of my 2008 Mac Pro by several years. I have only recently replaced it with a Mac Studio (M1 Max).

El Capitan is still useful if you have specialized production needs. Other than that, you won't find a current browser that is supported, Netflix no longer works and you'll probably find that other websites you use will not work properly.

Most old machines can use the dosdude High Sierra patcher and you will find it gives you greater flexibility and compatibility with modern applications.

Don't forget to install the updated Let's Encrypt certificates.
