Hi everyone,

I've been using the iPhone 2g for about a year now. Happy with it, but probably haven't used it's full capabilities as I don't have a data plan. I'm thinking of getting a data plan now, and wondering if it's worth upgrading to a 3GS. Besides the speed, is there anything else that would make it worth the upgrade? (The only new thing I know of is the GPS which would be useful for me).

Thanks!

The processor is much faster, so pretty much every aspect of the phone feels way more snappier. For example, the speed of WiFi didn't change between the original iPhone and the 3GS, but Safari on the 3GS is soooo much quicker. Exiting a program back to the home screen is quicker. Starting programs is much quicker. So even not considering the 3G data part of the phone, it's just nicer to use (IMO).

My roommate has the iPhone 3G, and when I use it to do something, it makes me crazy (at how slow it is).

hell yes.

video, GPS with a compass, 6 times faster internet, voice control, and soooo much more.

and you don't wanna rock a throw back phone, do you?

Yes it is. I had my 2G serve me well during 2 years of its contract. When the 3GS came out I decided I'd buy it, got it, and now I can say it is well worth it.

GPS is very handy for me. I relied a lot on Google Maps, but sometimes, the triangulation on the 1st Gen was a bit off, so that's a plus. 3G speeds are fast compared to EDGE speeds, so I am happy there, oh BTW, my area has great AT&T coverage and connections. The speed and responsiveness of the device makes it well worth it.

You will notice the difference. As for data, you will be awed at the things you missed without data.

Of course it's worth it. You don't need a bunch of people telling you that.

I agree. I recently went from the 2G to a 3G and the data alone is much faster. In my area 3G is A LOT better than EDGE coverage. It's almost as fast as my wifi at home which blew me away. As far as the 3GS speed, the phone is definitely a lot more responsive.

I am excessively cheap - personally, I think it is worth it, but my contract runs out in February. I will wait until June to get the new iPhone - I just have to get a solution to fill in the gap.
