Hey there everybody (hi Dr. Nick) I know people must be getting bored with how many people ask this same question, but I'm asking from a different perspective. When the new notebooks were released in australia they went up $600. I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to buy an imac now rather than wait for the macworld. I'm guessing that if the prices go up it won't be worth the wait...I don't 'need' an imac now, but it would beat paying $600 more! What do you guys think? Cheers.

Tough call. If the $US remains so high compared to the A$ then for sure Apple will raise prices on the iMac range. Given the magnitude of the currency revaluations of late, I think there might be a good chance that they will re-price even before any refresh.

That would certainly be controversial but if they are bleeding margin via the currency exchange it could well happen.

Of course, this assumes that the A$ will remain low against the greenback. Some people think that the different underlying strengths of the US and Aus economies will inevitably push the A$ higher against the US$ sooner rather than later. The current valuations fly contrary to the 'normal' determinants of a currency's relative strength.

It's a bit of a crap shoot at the moment but I'd buy now. If the prices go up, you're laughing. And if the currencies move back in Australia's favour, you can bet Apple will just keep the extra margin anyway.

Thanks for the reply, I think I might buy one in the next couple of weeks. It's a bit of a toss up, but I've decided that I would be happy either way if I got one sooner rather than later. Thanks again :)
