I bought it in 2018 and am happy with it but the battery is starting to fade. Has anyone replaced the battery on their mini 5 and was it worth it?

You couldn't buy in 2018, since the mini 5 came in 2019. If it's the mini 5, it can be worth it, especially if you got 256GB and/or cellular. If it's the mini 4, not worth it, I am letting my mini 4 die with it's poor battery, the device is too slow on iPadOS to be worth spending more money on it

Thanks. I guess I was thinking of the Mac mini. The iPad mini 5 is still a good performer which is why I didn't upgrade to the 6. I am going to just be more aggressive about charging it and wait a year and then replace the battery. This is the first time I would replace a battery on my iPad. All of the rest just became to slow to the point of it not being worth it. I turned those into digital clocks and always plugged in.

The mini 5 is still worth it. Mine is fast as new, but I am not upgrading to IOS 15 because it's more taxing on RAM. My battery is still 82% so it's pretty fine and Apple will only replace if it fails their tests, it's not like you can choose when to replace it just because you are ready to pay.... It has to be very degraded... or they'll send you back home....

You can upgrade to iOS 15 with no drawbacks. My iPad Mini 5 runs everything with zero slowdown with the upgrade and it’s a much nicer looking interface on the iPad compared to iOS 14 with widgets such as music and weather appearing on the main screen.

I am not worried about slowdowns but about more frequent reloads since IOS 15 tends to use more RAM. I don't use widgets and I actually prefer the Today View, which allows me to put more icons on the home screen... I have only updated my 10.5 out of all my iPads. I might update more devices once universal control arrives, but not the mini 5. I really need some compelling reason in iPadOS 16 to make me update.

Fair enough. The additional RAM usage isn’t noticeable to me because I compulsively shut down the apps I am not using. I normally just have YouTube, a couple of browsers and possibly Disney or Netflix open at any one time. It’s a nice update but obviously stick to whichever you prefer.
