I'm utterly confused. I bought a licence from one of the iphonesimfree dealers and part of the process involves me giving them the IMEI number and I eventually go to jailbreakme.com. So is there any difference between the two? I'm having issues with the iphonesimfree process. It says I "unlocked" but I still can't activate my non AT&T SIM card. I've read all this good stuff about jailbreakme, can I use jailbreakme now? BTW, I have a 1.1.1 phone.

Don't use IPSF. It will zero out your RSA token at seczone+0x400. So unless you know that IPSF backup it up, don't use it.

Use iNdepedence + anySIM 1.1.1 instead.

ps: IPSF is a program that unlocks your phone to use with any sim. Jailbreakme is a site that jailbreaks your phone, that is gives you read/write access to the file system. So you can install any program you want on the phone.

That means that if you unlock with IPSF the damage may be unrepairable and you will most likely by unable to upgrade software in the future. (unless IPSF keeps a backup which nobody knows)

Use iNdepedence + anySIM 1.1.1 instead.

Or Jailbreakme + anySIM 1.1 ;)

Right. But it looks like he is having issues with activation, and that is why I proposed iNdepedence.

 I can't believe people are still buying licenses from ipsf, which actually causes more damage to the phone than the free anySIM does.

argh

Thanks guys for the info except this comes a bit too late...macrumors forum was down for a few hours while I was trying to do all of this so i thought the ipsf method was "the" method. Anyway, I did the ipsf method and my phone is now unlocked and I'm using other carrier's SIM. What damage did I do to my phone? And is there no way to repair it?

As far as my knowledge goes, if IPSF did not make a backup of your seczone (which nobody knows), then the damage done by the unlocking program (IPSF in your case) may be unrepairable and you may not be able to upgrade your software in the future because you run the risk of "bricking" your phone. :(

By the way Compile 'em all, just for curiosity, are you Locked?
