I have the base model 2.3 and 8gb ram. there is lagging issue while surfing the web and i used to open apps by putting the Application folder on the right side of the Dock. Openning the Application fold this way to launch apps will see obvious lagging issue. I would like to see if anyone launch apps like i do in GM version of Mountain Lion and is it smooth now?

Scrolling still seems a bit laggy to me in Safari in heavily data driven sites. TheVerge.com is probably the worst. Definitely need a fix for that.

i am just worrying that it is the processor's ability or the ram. if the problem is either of them, i will consider to exchange it within the return period.

I was looking at the rMBP as my next machine but these lag issues would drive me up the frickin' wall considering the cost of the machine.

I just don't understand why Apple chose to release it with these issues.

It's a software issue. An Ivy-Bridge quad core i7 can definitely handle Safari scrolling. and 1600mhz ram is plenty fast enough too.

It's a GPU problem as the GPU should be taking care of such operations. But there is nothing wrong with the hardware of the GPU ofcourse since the 650m is more than powerful enough for such light work. So it's likely to do with drivers or OS X being crap.

Light work? Do you even know how much graphical work is being done just to power Retina Display with its high number of pixels? The mobile GPUs in there barely have enough power to do it properly.

Here's the highly detailed article from Anandtech on why rMBP struggles to keep up with Retina Display. Read the next page on where he said there are no official mGPU that actually can scale at the resolutions that Retina works at. Apple's forced to do it in software until those mGPUs come out with support for it.

To be quite honest, the hardware in the rMBP isn’t enough to deliver a consistently smooth experience across all applications. At 2880 x 1800 most interactions are smooth but things like zooming windows or scrolling on certain web pages is clearly sub-30fps. At the higher scaled resolutions, since the GPU has to render as much as 9.2MP, even UI performance can be sluggish. There’s simply nothing that can be done at this point - Apple is pushing the limits of the hardware we have available today, far beyond what any other OEM has done. Future iterations of the Retina Display MacBook Pro will have faster hardware with embedded DRAM that will help mitigate this problem. But there are other limitations: many elements of screen drawing are still done on the CPU, and as largely serial architectures their ability to scale performance with dramatically higher resolutions is limited.

Some elements of drawing in Safari for example aren’t handled by the GPU. Quickly scrolling up and down on the AnandTech home page will peg one of the four IVB cores in the rMBP at 100%:

The GPU has an easy time with its part of the process but the CPU’s workload is borderline too much for a single core to handle. Throw a more complex website at it and things get bad quickly. Facebook combines a lot of compressed images with text - every single image is decompressed on the CPU before being handed off to the GPU. Combine that with other elements that are processed on the CPU and you get a recipe for choppy scrolling.
