I've been waiting for long for the new MacBook Pro Core2Duo, I thought it would be a big leap over the CoreDuo, as it was a 64bit processor, but then I read that memory was not fully 64bit capable (Intel 945P = 32 bit = 3gigs). I saw the specs and there weren't any GPU improve (new X1700 or 7700), any Blu Ray or HD-DVD.... so I'm a bit dissapointed.
I'm a big fan of the MBP, and this new model is really fast, incredibly fast. But that's the only improve there has been, performance. All the new features that are to come have been missed, waiting for Santa Rosa's MBP. I need a new laptop but I don't want to spend 3000$ on an aged technology. Santa Rosa won't be any big leap in performance, but it will offer many new features in terms of conectivity. It's a shame that in one or two years you must to buy an external HD DVD or Blu Ray device to play or store HD videos. It's a shame that in these time you must to buy an express card to connect the WWW via Phone instead of having the "modem" inside your laptop (WWAN, WiMAX). And many other features like an Vista updated GPU (DirectX 10). In 5 months the new Intel GMA 3000 won't be much slower than the actual X1600. Why shouldn't I wait for the following MBP??? Maybe because the lack of time. Core2Duo Laptops where announced in September and the first 17" MBP have arrived to the stores in November. When will I see in my local Apple Store in Europe a Santa Rosa MBP??? I think it should be in june or july. But it will incorporate the new Leopard OS, maybe for that moment Parallels will have a 3D acceleration capable solution, and why not, new case model for the MBP with several colours to choose. Too much novelties, don't you think so??
Santa Rosa will increase performance only a 15/20%, but connectivity will have and advance of 100% over actual models, and GPU's will be 20% faster. We could consider that's a revolution. What about C2D????
