Is Messages App compatible with iOS 7?

Can anyone please confirm whether or not Yosemite's Messages App works with iOS 7?

I have an iPhone 4 and can't update to iOS 8.

I'm simply hoping it retains the ability to text other iPhone users - I realize that it won't allow for the extended SMS functionality.

Thanks. I just bought a brand new rMBP - I just don't wish to lose functionality with my iPhone 4.

As iOS 8 hadn't been released yet, I'm worried about the beta v. the current public release.

Uh, iOS 8 is out... Could you clarify what you were asking in the OP? I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to figure out.

I just need to know if Yosemite requires iOS 8 or is compatible with iOS 7?

In Mavericks, with iOS 7 and the Message App, I can send and receive texts on my laptop, restricted to iPhones.

I would like to know if that functionality is retained with Yosemite, or if Yosemite requires iOS 8.
