That's an idea that popped into my head today.
I've been keeping up with the news on the shakedown of small developers by L*dsys and other shell companies. Several are connected at least in some way to Nathan Myhrvold's company IV. Myhrvold used to be one of the big wigs at MS, and supposedly is still pretty close to the company. What I find interesting is that L*dsys has gone after iOS, Android, and now Blackberry developers, but I haven't heard anything about them going after Windows Phone developers (of course there aren't that many, but I don't think there are many BlackBerry developers these days either). It just seems like a funny coincidence that WP is the only platform they don't seem to have gone after.
The idea would seem to be to create an environment of fear for developers and hope they flee to the windows phone platform, which has no lawsuits.
such a thing wouldn't be out of character for MS either. They pumped money into SCO Group so they could go after IBM and Linux. They have gone after companies using Android OS for licenses, and it's said that MS makes more money off Android than it does off Windows Phone.
they've also stated that Linux infringes MS patents, while doing everything possible to avoid naming said patents.
