MacBook Pro M1..
due to COVID I have to be on videocall with my colleagues for many hours and I know Microsoft teams is not yet updated for M1s so it’s still the Intel version..
Is the SSD consumption high because of it?

Nope it just gobbles up about 2 gb of ram for no good reason. I have had bigger issues with OneDrive writing really much to the harddrive until recently. Still not worried about my machine.

App is based on Electron that's why it's consuming so much RAM. Usually I try to use the Web App but it really sucks having to be alt tabbing within Safari.

Honestly I have been using it on my 16" and it sometimes it gets up to 4GB when on conferences... Plus it drives my i7 crazy

Teams on the Mac especially is a bad written app and Microsoft knows about it. There are many complains about it and apparently Microsoft should bring a new version at some point, which solves all issues. (something I don't really believe). The biggest issue with Teams is desktop sharing. When desktop sharing, the Mac gets extreme slow (even my Intel iMac with 48GB of RAM) and the system gets unresponsive. Microsoft has really done a very bad job here..

Teams problems isn’t isolated to Mac, my work issued HP laptop with Windows tries to self iginte when doing conference calls.

I also have heard that Teams is getting a total rebuild, and instead of Electron it will be Universal 2 (just like the rest of Office). Ironically while Slack is for now on electron they did a full rebuild and refactoring on it and after that it became FAR better behaved.

Microsoft has slowly moved into the 1A with Apple for brands I trust. Their OS is trash but I have no doubt they will give their macOS user base an amazing experience. Teams must be mid rebuild.

I do tend to have issues with Teams if I run it for too long on my M1 machines.

Sadly, the MS is focusing on Web Apps and native is not on the horizon. Funnily, it is the same with Outlook - it will be transitioned to an "installable" web app (link).

I'd recommend using Edge (M1 version) solely for running MS stuff (incl. Teams) and it seems to work a bit better than the old Electron app (electron itself is not that bad, MS using electron that is 6+ months old is the issue).

I think I’ll use the web version from now on, but why not use it in safari? Everyone is suggesting using it on Microsoft Edge

I'm not sure if it's because of the extension/capability pairing it with. I'm using it with Safari because I save Edge for my Azure subscriptions
