So are we to believe it's a pretty reliable vs. current LED? A Google search turned up only a few TV's currently employing this type of display. Maybe it's a difficult question to answer if it's hasn't been out in the wild for very long.

Some suggest never to buy new first generation Apple technology. But rather wait until they iron out all the kinks. I throw this out there given some are looking forward to the rumoured next iPad Pro with A14x and mini-LED display. Would you be willing to drop ~$1000-$1200 on day one on unproven tech?

I'm not always a fan of Apple version 1 technology either, but if there is a significant improvement in black levels, I'm in.

I'd be willing to buy day 1, but would test heavily in the first 2 weeks. If the black level improvement is not significant, then I'd consider returning it if I could get a 2020 model for much cheaper. The only question is whether or not I'd be willing to give up the 5G support.

If it offers a significant improvement in real world image or video editing it will be successful and worth it for me.

I've been pretty lucky with first gen Apple Products. My blue and white G3 was one of the first ones and it still runs, as does my G4 PowerBook which was the first aluminum 15" model. Though after working for an Apple reseller and booking so many first-gen Macs into service, I tend to stay away and pick 'em up after the paid beta testing period.

The Pro Display XDR already uses a technology similar to Mini-LED. So it’s not “completely new”.
