I'm getting some free add-ons to my Canadian iPhone account. The option was MMS or visual voicemail.

I'm already getting name display/call display with early evenings calling (5pm) free so the two above is my dilemma. I already got unlimited SMS right now.

Isn't MMS pretty much useless? Some phones can't handle the info + lag time. I can't see me using either add-ons much but what would be the case for MMS?

I think it's pretty worth it. I MMS everyday to iPhones and other phones. I do not think that visual voicemail is all that great, although i have it. I generally delete voicemails as I get them; so it isn't a big seller for me. I don't think you could go wrong with SMS and MMS.

MMS is nice to have. Mostly I use it for sending pictures of pasta or some other product with "this one?!" as the text but occasionally I find a something I want to send a friend (like recent local graffiti reading, "TO ARCH, THE BABY IS YOURS. CALL ME?" Classy)

It's great but only because if I know someone hasn't got mobile email I can still send a picture. Otherwise it's always via email.

no MMS should die out it, is slow, costs an arm and you can only send pictures that end up being about 60x60 pixels,

IMO email is the only way forward for the smartphone era, you can send about 1000 full res pictures with a massive essay in each email for about 1GB, MMS doesnt come close in price or quality

really? mine goes fairly quickly, is the same as a text message, pricing wise, and the pic on the receiving end is always the same size as the one i sent

OP, i would say to get MMS is you really think you will use it enough

I don't know...

I doubt it would be better on another phone and if that's the case, what's the point right?

I wouldn't mind MMS but the day to day use doesn't seem justifiable.

What do you guys think?

I use it maybe twice a month. It's pretty fast, doesn't bother me.

Makes sense. I just read this right now...

Europe's most advanced MMS market has been Norway and in 2008 the Norwegian MMS usage level had passed 84% of all mobile phone subscribers. Norwegian mobile subscribers average one MMS sent per week.

If the most intense people in Norway use it an average of 4 times a month, I can't really see it's utility. Plus, I'm not dying to send pictures of capellini pasta anytime soon :p

hmmm....

You cant compare European MMS usage with North American usage. I send at least 1 MMS a week. I'm not trying to force it on you, but that comparison doesn't hold that much water. When America first got MMS, I didn't think I would use it that much. But once I was given the ability to, I took advantage of it to the fullest

I hear you. Those 3Gs ads showing MMS make it seem so useful.

Can anyone say how MMS looks like to the receiver? Does it work most of the time?

Thanks

here in the tampa bay area its def not worth it...its hit or miss all the time!

verizon to att iphone is horrible...

Up here in Canada we have about 5 national carries of the iPhone so I can't imagine it's going to be any easier here. Hmmm....

are you kidding? its great here in the 813. my MMS's always go through perfectly

not kidding...its horrible...

friend was sending me a couple of pics right next to me...never got them (verizon to att)

another friend was sending me a photo from his iphone...he called me after 2 hours and asked if i recvd the photo...i said what photo !!!

this happens all the time....ive restored the phone...rebooted....every thing...nothing helped..

Given the choice, I would take visual voicemail over MMS. I don't send many MMS, but I use voicemail almost every day.

seriously, is anyone capable of making a decision for themselves anymore? how can you possibly decide on something based on a random smattering of completely opposite replies from anonymous people on a forum?

do you want to send photos/videos via SMS? get MMS. do you not need it? don't get it.

I would take visual voicemail. I have both here in canada with rogers. I hardly ever use MMS. I don't find it worth it.

Exactly.
You're not buying a house, its just a phone feature. Just pick what you use or like the most.
