Searched here and I see quite a few people having problems with Yahoo push email, except most of them are older posts.

I don't mind paying for MobileMe because I would use it for a few other things, but if Yahoo's push email works just as good I'll just use Yahoo instead.

Are they both about the same as far as reliability and functionality with push email?

In my experience, Mobile Me is DEFINITELY better. My wife and I both have BeeJiveIM and have set up push email for notification. I used my Mobile Me account and she uses her Yahoo. I can send her an IM while she is on Away and the notification will not come until much later, sometimes for several hours. For me, the notification on Mobile Me comes almost as soon as she presses send on the IM. Usually within just minutes at most.
My thinking is that Mobile Me has far less traffic than Yahoo, and it's a paid service so Apple really needs to step up their game to please the users.
I get Mobile Me for the seamless sync of calender and contacts between all our computers and iphones, that alone is worth the subscription. The push email is icing .

I will add that my own yahoo account seems to get emails much faster than hers. Since Yahoo is free, there is no reason for you not to get an account and see how it works out for you.

Yeah, I already have a Yahoo account...it kind of sucks. Was wondering if Mobile Me was worth the hassle. May do the trial.
